Physical activity and exercise are not only tools for wellbeing, but also a form of preventive medicine and a means to longevity. This is the central message of the conference “Exercise for Health – Road to Milano Cortina 2026: The Value of Physical Activity and Exercise for Wellbeing,” which will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Hall of Palazzo Reale, Milan.
Promoted by the Department of Welfare and Health of the City of Milan, in collaboration with the Wellness Foundation and IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, and under the patronage of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation and the Milan Medical and Dental Association, the symposium offers a unique opportunity for dialogue between institutions, the scientific community, healthcare professionals, sports organizations, and citizens.
The initiative aims to create a lasting cultural and social legacy in view of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, encouraging a broad discussion on the role of physical exercise in the prevention of chronic diseases, mental health management, and the promotion of active aging.
San Raffaele Hospital, long a leader in research and care and a strong proponent of prevention as a key pillar of health and longevity, brings to the symposium its extensive multidisciplinary expertise. Presentations will cover fields such as neurology, rehabilitation, metabolic medicine, oncology, urology, and surgery, emphasizing how physical activity and exercise are key elements at every stage of healthy living and treatment pathways.
The conference program features numerous experts presenting talks and discussions on vital topics such as brain aging prevention, the importance of cardiopulmonary testing, exercise as medicine for metabolic health, and integrating physical activity into breast cancer prevention and care. Additional themes include multidisciplinary rehabilitation strategies, the impact of obesity and sedentary lifestyles, the latest innovations in regenerative medicine applied to sports, and the crucial role of nurses in optimizing patient health before surgery.
This event represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen collaboration among institutions, the medical-scientific community, sports organizations, and civil society, promoting a culture of movement as a right to health and a fundamental factor of wellbeing for all.
The event, free and open to the public, will include morning sessions for doctors, specialists, and students (with the opportunity to earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits), and afternoon sessions starting at 2:30 p.m. for the general public.
